Kiev is the city where the new and the old make excellent possibilities for cultural and aesthetic exploration. However, before you become a visitor to this fantastic city, take some time to figure out at least 2 questions: where you will spend your nights and how you are going to get around the place.

Let us consider picking an accommodation. Start by considering your budget and your tastes, you may either choose to rent a room in a Kiev hotel, or rent an apartment. Count the stars on Kiev hotels to estimate the quality of the service and accommodation and the price you are willing to pay for it.

The Ukrainian capital boasts of several luxury hotels. There are virtually tens and tens of less chic Kiev accommodation opportunities. A five star accommodation is going to be approximately $400-850 per 24 hrs, four star hotels will cost $150-$500, three stars will be about $70-300, two stars will cost from $50 to 120 and 1 star hotels cost around 25-100 per night.

There exist as well several hostels in the city for students and young people. In an ordinary hostel you will have unpretentious but clean accommodation facilities and some beds in one room.

If you are looking for an opportunity to save some buck, you might want to rent an apartment. Instead of a small hotel room for about $90-150 you can rent a luxury apartment in the city center. Inexpensive one-room apartments may be rent for less than $50. Some owners that give for rent this kind of Kyiv apartments might even offer to meet you when you arrive. The rule of thumb of here is to book the apartment at least a couple of days in advance.

In case you are pressed for money or would like to have something more extreme, you could try renting a sleeping berth inside a train. There is a train depot not far from the train station ?Karavaevy dachi? where you may negotiate a compartment for some $15. Try the option at your own danger.

Of course few people come to Kiev to stay indoors. This city with over two million inhabitants has many great places to visit if you can find your way around. Do not worry, though. The public transportation is fairly appropriate.

The most comfortable option to move around is Kiev taxis. the driver will deliver you you from the station to wherever you are staying for less than $35. In fact, for a foreigner, the taxi service should be quite inexpensive. It is a pleasure to taxi Kiev around. Nevertheless, in case you do not plan on using only taxis in Kyiv, the city has some other transport options to offer.

In the first place, it is the underground that covers most of the city. It is very convenient when you have to travel large distances during hot hours when there are traffic jams on the roads. Second of all, there are buses, trolley busses and trams. These types of transport are rather inexpensive: you pay a fixed fee to travel any distance. However, they are not very regular. Third, you can travel afoot or use Kiev's special transport - funicular that escalates the shore of Dnieper River. And finally, you can simply walk around.

Come to Kyiv. This city disposes of plenty of attractions to please an aspiring tourist.
