How do we define a semi-conductor? It's mainly made of materials with special resistance (it is among that of a conductor and a non-conductor). The resistance of semiconductors also depends on variations of temperature or supplementary admixtures.
The material is known to have admixtures if some other substances have been put to it. Semi-conductors are defined as thyristors of type-n or type-t according to the type of complete material.
Diodes and transistors are made of the two variants of semiconductors. It's so that now the most actual material for semi-conductor production is silicon.
Semi-conductor material is necessary to get diodes that serve for letting the stream of electrical current just in one sense. There is a layer of + (positive) construction, - (negative) construction and so-called pn-transfer fixed as barrier level in every diode. Diodes create electrical circuits transforming between direct and alternating electrical current. Because that diodes let current flow just in a single sense only half of the processes or cycle passes by. Rectifier is the expression for such a junction.
LED (light diodes) is one more variant of diodes. They are applied in case it's necessary to create light at little voltages and at the same time get no warmth. Such diodes are present in all units of modern electronic devices for example TV sets or stereo systems in order to mark the idle mode.
Moore's law gave way to the development of thyristors manufactures. The most important factor for producing complex power semiconductor devices at smaller cost is today lithography. As optical lithography is today actual no more, there's these days a tendency for other techniques. Today ultraviolet lithography and nano-imprint lithography are supposed to be the most suitable substitutes to optical one. Read the rest of this entry »
